Position Summary
The Budget Director, Student Affairs at William & Mary is responsible for the Division’s $70M budget, including planning and fiscal analysis to ensure optimal operation of the Student Affairs program. In this role, the incumbent will also provide direction and guidance to leadership on fiscal management and impacts to Student Affairs during the various stages of implementing the university’s $800M housing and dining comprehensive facilities plan. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs for Finance and Administration, the Director plays an active role in realizing the vision of the Student Affairs division: to create an engaging learning environment where the community is strengthened and individuals flourish.
Conditions of Employment
- This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.
- This position is restricted, subject to the continued availability of funding.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and or experience.
- Substantive professional experience and specialized expertise directly related to the position.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets for a unit within a large-scale organization including comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of program budget planning, formulation, evaluation, and budget execution.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze complex information and produce reports in a variety of formats.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive evaluations of budget requests and their justifications, and coordinate budget formulation with Division and university priorities.
- Proficiency in a variety of software applications with demonstrated skills in using an automated financial system.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or higher education administration or equivalent experience in related roles
- Professional experience working in a higher education setting, preferably in student affairs.
- Experience training staff in best practices of budgeting and fiscal administration
