The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia seeks a finance scholar with exceptional research and teaching credentials to fill the Connaughton Chair in Alternative Investments. We are accepting applications from candidates at the full professor or associate professor levels, with opportunities for associates to “grow” into the position of full professor. The position starts August 2025.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in Finance or a related field. Candidates must also demonstrate evidence of a record of sustained excellence in research, teaching, and service. The strongest candidates will have: 1) an established track record and evidence of continued excellence in generating research of the highest quality and publishing in premier academic outlets; 2) sustained excellence in teaching in the Finance discipline, including significant institutional knowledge of alternative markets (including, private equity, private credit, real estate, hedge funds, quantitative investing, and sustainable and impact investing) and strong evidence of leadership in educational programs; 3) sustained and substantial service contributions with strong evidence of continued leadership in service; and 4) evidence of the ability to contribute as a leader at McIntire through interfacing with McIntire’s extensive alumni network of successful finance professionals and entrepreneurs.
The holder of the Connaughton Chair will be a member of the Finance Area within the McIntire School and is expected to be a thought leader in the Area and the McIntire School. The successful candidate can also develop close working relationships with faculty in other schools across the University as a part of one of UVA’s many ongoing pan-University challenges.
The University of Virginia is one of the highest-ranked public universities in the United States, and the McIntire School of Commerce (www.commerce.virginia.edu) awards a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, and Master of Science degrees in Commerce, Business Analytics, Accounting, Global Commerce, and the Management of Information Technology.
