Who We Are Looking For: The Golisano Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship seeks a Lead Finance Faculty member to build our foundation of Finance courses and is excited about integrating them with other relevant business disciplines. We seek faculty who actively embrace an open mindset towards integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other technology into their teaching and advising, aiming not only to enhance their own teaching effectiveness, but also to significantly enrich our students' learning experiences and skills. At the Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship, our primary focus is on student learning and engagement; with faculty, with each other, and with the external business community. Classroom enrollments will be between 20-25 students to empower an emphasis on active teaching and learning. We are all at the institute for the empowerment of our students. It is about them, not us. Therefore, faculty will have a strong and consistent commitment to student learning including multi- and interdisciplinary integration between courses, so students understand connections and increase lateral thinking. Faculty will keep student-learning and progress central to their efforts, including assessing progress on CLOs and PLOs (see below). Faculty will be empathetic and engaged mentors to students in and out of the classroom. Faculty choose to teach at our Institute because:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the "Lead Faculty" for two required Finance courses and co-teach Accounting, Analytics, Economics, and Math.
  • Lead Faculty are primary instructor for a given course, responsible for conducting each class meeting session, assignment design and grading, and holding weekly Team meetings with co-Instructors supporting the class
  • Normal teaching load is 12 courses per 4 Quarters, and terms serving as Lead Faculty carry a load reduction to 3 courses and usually only 1-2 preps
  • This includes completion of building out the detailed weekly lesson plans for Finance I and II (Modeling) which run back-to-back in Quarter 5 and 6
  • Our courses are integrated within, and between, Quarters, so these detailed course builds will include integrated assignments with other courses running concurrently
  • Collaboration with our Director of Teaching and Learning and/or Learning Engineer for support in assuring assignment design is constructed with an assessment lens, and emphasizing and ensuring active learning in each class meeting session
  • Collaboration with Director of Educational Technology and/or Learning Engineer in their conversion of these plans into our Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas
  • When not serving in Lead Faculty role for Finance I and II, collaborate with other full- and part-time faculty building out detailed weekly lesson plans for Accounting, Analytics, Economics, and Math.
  • This is accomplished through relevant co-teach assignments and weekly Team sync meetings

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Finance preferred, however, advanced degrees including Accounting or an MBA with emphasis on Finance will be considered.
  • Practitioners in finance (e.g., CFA, other) with demonstrable effective active teaching will also be considered
  • Minimum 10 years' experience and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching engaging finance courses, with an emphasis on applied learning and active teaching.
  • Demonstrated success in practical and applied teaching with an emphasis on proficiency development and active-learning classroom experiences is vital.
  • Professional experience in finance with exposure to accounting, or in accounting with exposure to finance, is highly preferred.
  • Facility with the Learning Management System (LMS) Canvas is highly preferred; experience with other LMS' will be considered, with emphasis on utilizing LMS' as a learning support for students.
  • Facility with MS Office 365, and utilizing educational technology is required; this includes experience with leveraging presentation and interactive educational technology as a component of an active learning environment. Experience with T1V/ThinkHub educational collaborative software is a plus.
