The Department of Finance and Legal Studies at the University of Missouri – St. Louis invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2023 or Spring 2024. Qualified Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Finance (or a related area) as the primary focus of study from an AACSB-accredited school. Applicants may be ABD but must complete the Ph.D. by May 2024. A secondary strong quantitative background in computer science and data analytics would be desirable. 

 

The position requires a strong background in fintech, including research skills leading to publications in high-quality peer-reviewed research outlets; and a commitment to teaching and service. The ability to teach the following courses is required:

 

  • Financial technology (Fintech), including blockchain courses. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, financial data analytics (Python and R), and financial derivatives. Other traditional finance courses, such as financial management.

Online teaching experience is also desirable. An active researcher will typically teach four three-credit courses in an academic year as needed related to the candidate’s strength and needs of the program. Engagement with Student Investment Trust, the new MS in Fintech, and the DBA program is also expected. Salary, benefits, and support are competitive with other AACSB-accredited schools.

The faculty has published papers in leading academic journals, including JF, JFE, RFS, JFQA, JIBS, MS, JMCB, JBF, FM, etc. Our faculty hold editorships and editorial review board appointments and receive many teaching and research awards. The department owns a modern finance lab and manages a portfolio worth more than $500,000 in Student Investment Trust. Research support includes databases such as Refinitiv Workspace, WRDS, Compustat, CRSP, Audit Analytics, and competitive grants at the College, campus, and University of Missouri system levels. The department has close ties to local business communities via Finance Advisory Board.
