The Rubacha Department of Real Estate, jointly administered by the SC Johnson College of Business and the College of Architecture, Art and Planning at Cornell University, invites applications for a dynamic, visionary leader to serve as the Inaugural Chairperson of the Department for a renewable three-year term, to be appointed at the rank of full professor. The successful candidate will have tenure in one of the seven areas in the SC Johnson College of Business or one of four departments (Architecture, Art, City and Regional Planning, and Design Technology) in the College of Architecture, Art and Planning and will be determined based on research area/interest and teaching experience. The position will be based in Ithaca, New York.

 The Inaugural Chairperson will be an internationally known scholar and proven administrative leader committed to building a multidisciplinary department of real estate at Cornell, productively bringing together the deep expertise of both the SC Johnson College of Business and the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. The Chairperson will be committed to supporting high-quality real estate degree programs, innovative research and scholarship, professional excellence and service, as well as partnerships both inside and outside the colleges and university. The qualifications of the candidate should be consistent with a tenured appointment at the level of full professor, with a Ph.D. in real estate, finance, urban economics, urban studies, urban planning, or a related field. The salary range ($111,500 to $309,900) will be commensurate with the candidate’s disciplinary field and experience.

 The Chairperson is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the department’s academic programs and budgets and working with the department’s administrative staff to ensure a workplace that is supportive of faculty, staff, and students. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the chair will work in close collaboration with the department faculty and both colleges’ deans. The ideal candidate will help create an environment of collaboration, transparency, and shared governance.

 The SC Johnson College of Business encompasses three Schools and seven areas: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration. The seven areas include Accounting, Applied Economics and Policy, Finance, Management and Organizations, Marketing & Management Communications, Operations, Technology, & Information Management, and Strategy & Business Economics.

 The College of Architecture, Art, and Planning comprises five departments: Architecture, Art, City and Regional Planning, Design Technology, and Real Estate.

 The Rubacha Department of Real Estate, established in 2022, currently offers the Master of Professional Studies degree (the Baker Program in Real Estate). The Department also offers a joint degree with the Master of Regional Planning program and a graduate minor in real estate. Courses and programs are taught at Cornell’s main Ithaca campus, as well as in New York City.
