The Department of Finance at Imperial College Business School is seeking applications for a Research Fellow in Climate Finance, with a focus on financing the transition to renewable energy and managing climate-related financial risk. Applicants must hold a PhD in Finance or a related field.

 

The successful candidate will work on projects which combine statistical analysis with economic theory and structural economic modelling. This will require a range of skills in economic analysis including both empirical and theoretical work. The candidate will benefit from an active research environment and exposure to leading senior scholars that support the development of a research profile commensurate with a leading business school.

Duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct finance and economics research on several projects related to the climate finance initiative. 
  • Acquiring, collating, and analysing big datasets (structured, unstructured, administrative data, and surveys) from around the world documenting household financial and economic behaviour. 
  • Developing structural integrated assessment models with a finance component  
  • Co-author manuscripts for submission to high-impact international journals in economics and finance.
  • Contribute towards the development of research grant applications

 

Other Activities: 

 

  • Present your research to a variety of audiences including funders, academics, and policy makers, at seminars, national and international conferences 
  • Undertake any necessary training and/or development to equip you with the tools and ability to conduct the required research

 

Essential requirements

  • PhD in finance or a closely related discipline
  • Knowledge of climate finance
  • Knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures
  • Practical experience within a research environment and / or publications in relevant and refereed journals;
  • Experience of presenting results and findings to specialist and non-specialist audiences e.g. at significant conferences or engaging with the public on science
  • Demonstrated success in delivering research results with evidence of national recognition and a growing reputation
  • Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature
  • Ability to develop and apply new concepts; Able to formulate research questions and develop successful research proposals and funding bids
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication
  • Ability to direct the work of a small research team and motivate others to produce a high standard of work

 

Further Information

This is a full-time 2 years fixed term contract. You will be based at the South Kensington Campus.
