The Reiman School of Finance is an academic unit of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver in Colorado. DU is the oldest independent university in the Rocky Mountain region, with approximately 11,800 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. Position Summary

We are open to applicants from all areas of finance scholarship. Applicants must have strong research skills and the ability and desire to conduct high quality research. Maintenance of AACSB academic qualifications (Scholarly Academic) is required. The successful candidate is expected to teach courses during the academic year, which may include fall, winter, and/or spring quarters. Teaching responsibilities include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Teaching responsibilities may involve, day, night, and weekend classes. Faculty members are expected to participate in the college’s faculty meetings, assurance of learning, and the advising of students in the program.

Essential Functions

Teaching: Expected to deliver up to six courses or their equivalent throughout the academic year, which may include summer, fall, winter or spring quarters. Summer research support and two course releases for research activity are granted for two years to an Assistant Professor. Course releases and stipends/summer support for research activity beyond the first two years as an Assistant Professor or an Associate Professor are subject to a competitive peer review process open to all faculty members. There may also be opportunities to teach during the nine-week summer quarter and/or online courses.

Research, Scholarship or Creative Work: The individual who fills this position will demonstrate potential for conducting high-quality research in the area of finance. The expectation for an Associate Professor is to have an established record of high-quality publications. The College and each academic unit maintain lists of target journals. All professors are expected to conduct primarily discipline-based research and focus on publishing in journals in the Reiman School premier and top journal categories.

Service: The individual who fills this position will be expected to participate in the academic life of the Reiman School of Finance and the Daniels College. This includes attendance at faculty meetings, participation in assurance of learning and curriculum development where appropriate, and active engagement in scholarly activities such as research symposia.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in finance or closely related field from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited school. ABD will be considered but must be completed no later than March 31 of the first year of employment at Daniels. Candidates will hold the title of instructor until completion of the doctoral degree.
  • The assistant professor will demonstrate potential for strong performance in teaching, research, and service.
  • The associate professor will have an established record in research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the rank.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The assistant professor will demonstrate strong potential to publish in Financial Times Top 50 journals or equivalent.
  • The associate professor will have an established record of publishing in Financial Times Top 50 journals or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging diverse student populations and students with different learning styles.

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $180,000-$183,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
