The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia invites applications for an Open Rank General (non-tenure track) faculty position in Finance beginning in the fall of 2022. We seek to hire faculty who stand out with respect to teaching and engagement with practicing managers.

General faculty applicants are expected to bring something distinctive to the School, such as outstanding teaching, high visibility and effectiveness in working with practicing managers and executives, or a particularly noteworthy area of thought leadership.  Most commonly, general faculty will be on either a Teaching Track or a Practice Track.  For the Teaching Track, primary responsibilities would be teaching and developing curricular materials.  For the Practice Track, primary responsibilities would be teaching in both MBA and Executive Education programs and writing with a view to influencing practice.  General faculty applicants typically bring a distinctive competency to the School without necessarily being expected to engage in the breadth of contribution of a tenured or tenure-track faculty.

All candidates should have experience indicating an ability to educate effectively, impact practice and policy, and contribute broadly to the academic life of the Darden community. Outstanding candidates will have exhibited sustained excellence in teaching at the graduate level in a variety of finance-related topics; integrated professional experience into academic settings; achieved recognition for regional, national, or international accomplishments in relevant professional fields; and demonstrated an ability to influence practice through thought leadership. All candidates must have a graduate degree in a field closely related to finance and preference will be given to those with a PHD.

Chosen faculty will be expected to teach and write cases related to the practice of management; to establish or continue interactions with practicing managers; to contribute to student activities and the academic life of the Darden School; and to advance practice through thought leadership. The full time MBA is delivered in Charlottesville and both the Executive MBA and new part time MBA are delivered at Darden’s Rosslyn campus in Northern Virginia.

Darden is an organization with a strong culture that reflects a commitment to our mission and values. Candidates who are invited for personal interviews will be asked to describe how they could help foster a learning environment that inspires and engages a diverse audience. (Please read the Darden, https://www.darden.virginia.edu/mba/culture-community/diversity, and University of Virginia statements and resources related to diversity and inclusion).

Review of applications will begin on October 4, 2021, though we welcome applications after that date and will continue to review applications until the position is filled. For more information about the Darden School and the University of Virginia, see http://www.darden.virginia.edu/.
