The Peter B. Gustavson School of Business invites applications from talented scholars for a tenure track/tenure position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of Finance. This position is expected to commence July 1, 2022.

Our faculty are globally recognized research leaders and we seek to complement and extend our already vibrant research community with a scholar dedicated to publishing high quality research in top-ranked academic journals. Commensurate with career stage, qualified candidates must have a PhD in Finance, an established publishing record in leading scholarly journals and a strong research pipeline of work in progress. We have a preference for areas of research related to sustainable finance and climate-related financial issues.

The School of Business offers Bachelor of Commerce, Masters of Business Administration, Masters of Global Business and Masters of Management degrees – all of which have a sustainability focus embedded in their curriculum and include a strong co-op component – as well as a PhD in International Management and Organization. Scholarship and teaching at the School are strongly aligned around our three areas of specialization (International Business, Service Management and Entrepreneurship) and our guiding pillars (Sustainable/Socially Responsible, International, Innovative and Integrative). We are a pioneer and leader in integrating curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate level and seek candidates who can work across traditional functional boundaries.

Sustainability and social responsibility are deeply embedded in all aspects of the school and candidates should reflect such a perspective in their research and teaching. The Gustavson School is home to the award-winning I-ACE program (Indigenous Advancement of Cultural Entrepreneurship), an innovative program of entrepreneurship education designed to deliver business skills training to Canadian indigenous communities. The Gustavson School partners with the Faculty of Law to operate the National Consortium for Indigenous Economic Development and with the Faculty of Engineering and other UVIC units to support the Coast Capital Innovation Centre, a pre-incubation hub for technology commercialization and venture creation. The School is also home to the Centre for Social and Sustainable Innovation (CSSI).

Gustavson is one of the few North American schools that is accredited by both the European Federation of Management Development (EQUIS) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Qualified candidates for this position must have a PhD from a research intensive university that is AACSB or EQUIS accredited. They must also have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate proficiency in the classroom.

The experiential dimension in our academic programs includes a mandatory co-op program for all undergraduate students, international exchanges, and overseas co-op work opportunities. In line with this approach, we will give preference to candidates with direct business experience and international experience.
