The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance offers three Bachelor programmes, four Master programmes of Management and Economics and six Masters of Laws (LL.M.), as well as several continuing education courses. It also includes the Doctoral School in Law and the Doctoral School in Economics and Finance. Around 2,500 students from 90 different nationalities are enrolled at the Faculty. Academic staff from 18 different nationalities teach at the Faculty, supported by practitioners from the field, visiting scholars and guest professors. Rooted in Luxembourg but with a European and international outlook, the Faculty counts three departments:

  • Department of Law
  • Department of Economics and Management
  • Department of Finance

Your Role...

The Department of Finance is determined to continue its way to become a leading European Finance department. To accomplish this, the Department of Finance can benefit from its location in a truly international country and in one of the main financial centres in Europe. There exist ample opportunity for inspiring interactions with the financial centre. The Assistant/Associate Professor shall play an active role in establishing the Department of Finance as a leading European finance group; the package we offer is commensurate with this ambition. In particular, shall be engaged in research, teaching, and administrative duties.

What we expect from you…

  • The candidate must have a proven track record of (a) publications or papers in the publication process (e.g., R&Rs) in top finance and/or economics journals as well as (b) presentations at top finance and/or economics conferences.
  • The candidate shall show clear signs of continued productivity of highest quality research (e.g., a strong pipeline of working papers and work-in-progress projects) with good chances of publications in the top finance and/or economics journals.
  • It would be considered an asset if the candidate’s profile includes documented expertise with respect to banking crises and their impact on financial markets.
  • The candidate shall have teaching experience, at the undergraduate as well as the graduate level, and in areas in banking and corporate finance including, in particular, risk management.
  • Practical work experience in the financial industry or at a regulator/central bank is considered an advantage.
  • Additional requirements include a PhD in Finance or Economics or related disciplines, completed at least three years ago.
  • The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and in one of the two official languages of Luxembourg: French or German. The University encourages its staff to learn the other official language and provides access to language courses to this end.

In Short...

  • Contract Type: the position at the Assistant (tenure track) or Associate Professor level, depending on qualification. Candidates starting as Assistant Professors follow the University of Luxembourg’s tenure-track career scheme and a possibility of promotion will be given after 5 years upon positive evaluation.
