Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Associate Professor/Professor in Finance

Roles & Responsibilities:

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a research-led university and correspondingly, International Business School Suzhou is a research-led business school. In this context, even though the workload of faculty in IBSS is generally shared between teaching, research, and service, academic staffs are expected to spend the majority of their time on research, followed by teaching, then service. Research activities include the publication of research articles, attendance of international conferences, and applications for research funding. Research performance in the School is benchmarked on internationally recognised lists of journal quality such as the Academic Journal Guide (UK) – a.k.a. the ABS list – and the ABDC list (AUS). The target levels on those lists are ABS3/ABDC: A or above. 

While we are particularly interested in applicants with an interest or expertise in FinTech, we also welcome applicants with an expertise in corporate finance, asset pricing, financial econometrics, risk management, and other sub-fields. 
 

Personal Attributes:

Successful applicants to the position of Assistant Professor are expected to: 

• A good team player 
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Hold a PhD degree in a field related to finance
• Have at least two years of work experience in higher education after obtaining a PhD – as a teacher and/or researcher
• Have academic publications in good journals or a strong pipeline of promising research

Successful applicants to more senior ranks are also expected to: 

• Have at least five years (AP) of work experience in higher education after obtaining a PhD – as a teacher and/or researcher
• Have a proven record of academic publications in good journals (ABS3+/ABDC-A+), plus a strong pipeline of promising research
   

Essential Qualification and Experiences:

Successful applicants to the position of Assistant Professor should possess: 

• Good research trainings
• Teaching experience in international classrooms
• Supervision experience at the undergraduate/postgraduate level
• Assessment of student work

Successful applicants to more senior ranks should also possess: 

• Module design and/or leadership experience
• Programme management experience or evidence of a significant service role
• Experience managing internal grants and applying for external funding

Desirable Qualification and Experiences:

Successful applicants to the position of Assistant Professor should preferably possess the following attributes: 

• Curriculum design 
• Teaching and/or research interest in Fin-tech and/or data science
• Engagement with academic/professional community 
• Professional qualifications (CFA/FRM and other equivalent finance qualifications)

Successful applicants to the position of Associate Professor/Senior Associate Professor should preferably possess the following attributes:

• Curriculum design 
• Teaching and/or research interest in Fin-tech and/or data science
• Engagement with academic/professional community 
• Professional qualifications (CFA/FRM and other equivalent finance qualifications)
• Experience securing/managing major external research grants
• PhD supervision experience and/or experience in designing/managing Fin-Tech related programmes 

Compensation Package:

Members of Academic Staff receive generous subsidies for accommodation, travel, children’s education, and medical insurance. A relocation allowance is provided. Non-Chinese passport holders may qualify for multi-year income tax “holidays”, depending on nationality and tax residency.

Citizenship and Visa Regulations:

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.  Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for a work visa in the P.R. China.
