Position Summary:

Monmouth University seeks a visionary, collaborative, and innovative leader who will serve as the next Dean of the Leon Hess Business School, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021.

The Leon Hess Business School has approximately 1200 undergraduate and 150 graduate students with a fulltime faculty of 45 across four departments including Accounting, Economics Finance & Real Estate, Management & Leadership, and Marketing & International Business. The undergraduate degree programs are offered under a BSBA with concentrations in Accounting, Economics, Finance, International Business, Management, Marketing and Real Estate. The MBA program concentrations include Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing, and a general MBA that allows for customization around the student's career goals. The school houses the Kislak Real Estate Center, and the Monmouth University Center for Entrepreneurship, and has a Financial Lab with Bloomberg Terminals. Students from the LHBS find employment in a wide range of industries and firms, with strong placement in the top financial and accounting firms. The LHBS is accredited by AACSB, and a Princeton's Review “Best Business School”.

The Dean provides overall strategic leadership for the school and reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. The ideal candidate will possess an earned doctorate in a business academic discipline; a distinguished record of academic achievement including effective teaching in higher education (undergraduate and graduate), scholarly activity and service at a level consistent with the appointment to rank of Professor with tenure; and demonstrated successful progressive administrative experience in higher education.

A strong candidate for this position will have vision, imagination and the ability to lead a dynamic organization, and a track record for developing programs, and investing in faculty. Strong candidates will have a record of commitment to diversity and equity in the school that is evidenced across faculty, students, stakeholders and programs. Candidates with a transparent style that invites engagement, and information sharing, and who are welcoming of new ideas and graciously accepts criticism, are preferred.

The Dean is a member of the President's cabinet, and will be involved in critical decision making for the university, as well as serving as a cultivator of donor relationships, and partnerships with industry and our community. Working with LHBS business council, departmental advisory councils, and the Dean's advisory group, the Dean will seek a strong connection to industry and guide the school to ensure strong programmatic alignment with the skills and knowledge for future oriented careers.

The ideal candidate will possess an earned doctorate from a business school and have leadership experience in the university academic environment. Have vision, imagination and the ability to lead a dynamic organization, and a track record for developing programs and faculty. Possess strong organizational and communication skills. Have a record of academic achievement, including effective teaching, scholarly activity, and service at a level consistent with the appointment to rank of full professor with tenure.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong candidates will have a record of commitment to diversity and equity in the school that is evidenced across faculty, students, stakeholders and programs. Candidates with a transparent style that invites engagement, and information sharing, and who are welcoming of new ideas and graciously accepts criticism, are preferred. Have a strong background, knowledge of, or experience in AACSB accreditation and requirements of AACSB Accredited institutions, along with either having a degree from or having held a full-time position in an AACSB accredited school. Experience in cultivating relationships with stakeholders and sponsors for the school including fundraising and partnerships with industry and the broader community. Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
