Finance Area at the Orfalea College of Business (OCOB) at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), is seeking a full-time, academic year, tenure-track position, beginning September 10, 2020. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated. Higher ranks may be considered. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

OCOB invites applicants for a faculty position serving both Real Estate and Finance. The Real Estate program at OCOB is an innovative, interdisciplinary academic program that collaborates with the College of Architecture. The Finance program is increasingly focusing on FinTech and Financial Analytics. The primary responsibilities of the position are:

  1. Expand a core group of courses to offer an enhanced, multidisciplinary approach to real estate education;
  2. Lead and support student experiential learning through development and facilitation of internships and externships, competition teams, field trips, and other venues;
  3. Help and contribute toward a curriculum focusing on enhancing financial literacy and financial technology;
  4. Conduct research on issues of relevance to Real Estate and Finance.

It is expected that the successful applicant is committed to quality undergraduate teaching, continued scholarly activity, and service to the University. Candidates with an interest in and ability to pursue scholarly projects with undergraduates are preferred. Applicants focusing on real estate, finance and data science are especially encouraged to apply.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required qualifications include:  

  1. A Ph.D. in Finance, Real Estate Finance, Economics or a closely related field from an accredited institution (or expected to receive by September 2020).  
  2. An excellent academic record demonstrating the ability to engage in high quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as scholarly research.  
  3. Demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion.  
  4. Demonstrable commitment to project-based learning and to engaging students in applied research.   

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to those with research and teaching experience in Real Estate Finance. Preference will also be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Relevant work experience will be considered a plus.  

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
