Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in health care management with expertise in finance (note the official job posting also refers to a second position with specialty in information systems). Applicants with teaching and professional experience who can facilitate students’ application of principles and concepts in health care scenarios will be given strong consideration, and those with health care industry or other relevant experience. The successful applicant will have a focus on teaching excellence in both the traditional face-to-face and online environments. Faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities at the program, department, college, university, profession, and community levels. Responsibilities also include advising, coaching, and mentoring students. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion to improve access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Primary instructional duties will likely include introductory and intermediate healthcare finance courses at the undergraduate or graduate levels. Secondary teaching duties may include other healthcare management courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Health Care Management program began in 1972 and has been continuously certified by AUPHA since 1984. With over 1,400 graduates, the program has a strong network of professionals working in health systems, physician practices, senior care organizations, and other health care organizations throughout North Carolina and the nation. ASU also offers a hybrid online MHA degree that began in the fall of 2016. The health care management program is located within the Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS). The BCHS is the newest and second largest college at Appalachian State University, with over 3,400 undergraduate and graduate students served by 150 faculty and staff. Committed to interprofessional innovation and collaboration in teaching, scholarship, service and clinical outreach, the BCHS is transforming the health and quality of life for the communities we serve. In 2018, the College moved into Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences, a new, state-of-the-art 203,000 square foot facility that is the cornerstone of the ASU Health Sciences Campus.
