The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary invites applications for an Associate Professor (with Tenure) or Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) in Finance, with expertise in Energy and/or Environmental Policy. This is a full-time appointment and includes a secondment of 75% to the School of Public Policy.  The anticipated start date is July 1st, 2020.

We are seeking an economist, financial economist, or related scholar with an established and active research program related to energy and/or environmental policy. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in a relevant academic discipline, such as, but not limited to, economics, business economics, business administration, or finance.  Candidates at the Associate Professor rank must have a minimum of five years of experience in an academic position, provide evidence that the individual is an excellent scholar with a rich research portfolio that includes publication(s) in the top Economics and/or Finance journals. The candidate should also have shown the ability to engage with policymakers in topics related to energy and/or environmental policy, and provide evidence of teaching effectiveness in a post-secondary institution. Candidates at the Assistant Professor rank can have less than five years of experience in an academic position and must have demonstrated publication(s) in the top Economics and/or Finance journals, show the ability to engage with policymakers in topics related to energy and/or environmental policy, and provide evidence of teaching effectiveness in a post-secondary institution.  Interesting areas of engagement include, but are not limited to, energy systems; strategic interactions between firms and regulatory agencies in the energy sector; economic and strategic evaluation of energy infrastructure (including transportation); the organization of energy markets; the assessment and valuation of the environmental impacts of energy sector activities, finance and climate change, and related stakeholder management needs. The successful applicant is expected to conduct high-quality academic and policy research, engage in public outreach and knowledge mobilization, be successful in securing external grants, participate in teaching, and play an active role in supervising students. Service to the University and community is also expected.

The successful applicant will demonstrate evidence of - and capacity for - publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals directly relevant to business and public policy (traditional academic outlets and policy-focused journals) through a sample of current research and a statement of research interests showing currency in the field and outlining future research directions. Evidence of excellence in teaching may be demonstrated by a statement of teaching philosophy and teaching evaluations. Evidence of success in securing external funding and outreach experience is a plus.
