The Business Management department at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) invites applications for an Instructor, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position starting Fall 2018.
Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a vibrant, pluralistic learning community committed to the intellectual and personal growth of students. The Business Management Department is undergoing a process of growth and renewal. A new Associates program in Financial Management has been recently approved. We would like to attract new faculty that will spearhead the growth of this program through teaching undergraduate financial courses using quantitative modeling, and providing student guidance. We expect our faculty to be versatile and be able to teach undergraduate courses in other fields in Business Management, as well, if needed. The faculty member will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions for the good of the institution. Research and publication are expected for tenure and promotion.
For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor Ph.D. or equivalent in Finance or related field. Also, required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrate potential for/or evidence of a strong research record which will or has resulted in peer-reviewed publications, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Experience with teaching and learning technologies preferred. Experience teaching non-traditional urban college students preferred. For Instructor Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and active progress toward a Doctoral program Finance or related field. Persons appointed in the instructor title are only eligible for five (5) annual appointments. Appointments to a professorial title subsequent to service as an instructor will only be considered if the candidate has obtained the qualifications for professorial ranks as stated above.
Ability to teach a range of classes relevant to business administration is important. City University of New York and BMCC expect faculty to engage in scholarship and research in their fields. Ideal candidates for the faculty positions would have an established research agenda and be able to take advantage of the academic resources and institutions available within the metropolitan New York area and the research opportunities within the City University of New York. Significant research release time is available to junior tenure-track faculty and peer-refereed publications are a necessary component for tenure and promotion.
Faculty are expected to teach and inspire a culturally and linguistically diverse student population as evidenced by outstanding student teaching evaluations. Demonstrated capacity to use a diverse range of effective and new technology based strategies as well as openness to adopting new practices is expected. In addition, candidates are expected to participate in college, department and professorial activities such as curriculum development, grant writing, assessment, faculty development, mentoring student projects, and share responsibility for committee and department assignments.
Candidates short listed for interviews would be expected to discuss their research and discuss/ demonstrate their teaching philosophy.
