Sumitomo Mitsui Asset Management (SMAM) is seeking researchers and software developers to develop analytics and systematic signals for fundamental and quantitative investment strategies.

Successful candidates would acquire/analyze new datasets, develop the infrastructure to optimize data delivery, and have the opportunity to explore techniques to deliver value-added sources of alpha to enhance the investment performance of fundamental and quantitative portfolio managers.

Roles are based in Tokyo, London and New York.

Key Responsibilities:

Research innovative, systematic investment strategies based on a thorough understanding of economic/ financial/ accounting theories and apply insights to asset pricing in financial markets.

Develop our analytics, research and portfolio construction infrastructure.
Identify new data sources to support our systematic security selection research.

Required Experience /Skills/Qualifications:

 - 3 to 5 years’ experience (PhD or Masters level) applying statistical modeling/quantitative analysis to problems in economics / finance / accounting or asset pricing. Empirical research experience using MATLAB, R, Python, or similar. Familiarity with database tools such as SQL

Software Developers:
- Computer science degree at a Ph.D. or Masters level, or equivalent practical experience. Proficiency in OOP, CI, automated testing, agile development, experience using Python/Java/Scala and familiarity with SQL/NoSQL. Experience with Apache Spark and involvement with open source software development is a plus. Finance related experience is ideal but not necessary.

As a self-starter, you will be required to get up to speed quickly, take ownership of projects from start to finish and liaise with other researchers and portfolio managers. As the investment and technology landscape is constantly changing, you will also be encouraged to keep abreast of developments in your functional role by participating in academic/developer conferences. You will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have a demonstrable ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
